Compare Values

The Compare Values block compares two incoming numbers and provides the result as a Boolean value. Use it wherever a program needs to make a numeric decision.

Typical use cases

  • Check whether a temperature exceeds a configured limit.
  • Compare a measured value with a configured target.
  • Test whether two numeric values are identical.
  • Start different program branches depending on a condition.

Inputs

InputTypeRequiredDescription
ANumberYesThe value on the left side of the comparison.
BNumberYesThe value on the right side of the comparison.

Both inputs accept either a connected numeric value or a fixed number entered directly in the block.

Settings

The Operator setting defines how the two input values are compared.

OperatorMeaningExample
=Equal5 = 5 → true
≠Not equal5 ≠ 3 → true
>Greater than8 > 5 → true
<Less than2 < 4 → true
≥Greater than or equal5 ≥ 5 → true
≤Less than or equal3 ≤ 7 → true

Outputs

OutputTypeDescription
ResultBooleanReturns true when the comparison matches; otherwise returns false.

Execution behavior

The block is recalculated whenever input A, input B or the selected operator changes. The result can be connected to a branch, filter, notification or another logic block.

Example

To activate cooling when the room temperature rises above 25 °C:

  1. Connect the current temperature to input A.
  2. Enter the fixed value 25 at input B.
  3. Select the > operator.
  4. Connect Result to the condition input of a branch block.

Validation and errors

  • An unconnected required input marks the block as incomplete.
  • Non-numeric values produce an invalid-comparison warning.
  • Floating-point values should not be tested for exact equality when small rounding differences are possible.

Related blocks

  • Branch — selects a program path using the Boolean result.
  • Range Check — tests whether a number is inside a minimum and maximum range.
  • Logic AND/OR — combines multiple Boolean conditions.
